About

Free Mind Skate School was founded by Josh Smith, a local skateboarder who has been skating in Adelaide for 20+yrs. Josh has become well known in the skate community and to local councils over the years due to his constant involvement in the facilitation of skate related events and competitions, as well as being a competition judge with the Australian Skateboard Federation. On top of that, for nearly half a decade Josh has been seen at skateparks across Adelaide coaching beginners to help boost the next generation of Adelaide skaters. What started as a part-time job while studying full-time all those years ago, has turned into a way of life.

With a strong passion for the skate scene in Adelaide, and with the experience gained facilitating and working at skate events/programs across the country, it became clear that Adelaide was at a massive disadvantage to other big cities in Australia. The lack of investment into Adelaide’s next generation of skaters, and the urgent need for an industry standard for skate coaching here in South Australia, is what fuels the passion to give back to the skate community and create opportunities in skateboarding.

Free Mind Skate School is an all inclusive skateboarding hub based on the South Coast of Adelaide that can tailor coaching solutions to all ages, genders, and skill levels. We focus on building a strong sense of community, while promoting safe and consistent progression on a skateboard, offering private skate coaching for large groups, small groups, and 1-on-1 sessions. We also run home-school sessions which are a great physical outlet, as well as a way to increase confidence and social skills.

Drawing on his experience as a contest judge and event organiser, Josh also tailors Contest Coaching packages specifically to suit the desired outcomes for you or your child. Whether you do 1 session, or a 5 week program, Josh will identify strengths that you can play to and gain the upper hand at the next competition.

If you are interested in becoming a skate coach yourself, Free Mind Skate School also runs interactive workshops that deliver Level 1 Skate Coaching accreditation through the Australian Skateboard Federation. This workshop provides you with hands on experience and qualifies you for further experience programs that help get you job-ready, rather than just giving you the certificate and sending you on your way. We are passionate about the standard of coaching in Adelaide, and we want all up and coming skate coaches to have the best chance at success.

Here at Free Mind we are also proud to offer a unique mentoring service aimed specifically at increasing resilience and confidence through our Stigma Stall Program. We strongly believe that every young person deserves the same respect and fair equality of opportunity in this life, regardless of their background.

We look forward to skating with you!
